Happy Tax Day

My piece at The Fox Nation has a few people upset.  I suggest that, rather than protest today, we celebrate.  You see, I love my country, and am grateful that my tax dollars go to keep us safe, to provide education, to research and development in science and health care, to provide infrastructure so we can travel this great land, and for a myriad of items we never even think about.

The original tea parties were to protest taxation without representation.  We have taxation with representation.  The problem the teabaggers (and I use that term advisedly) have is that they lost the election, not lack of representation.  There’ll be other elections. Better luck next time.  Furthermore, they’re protesting taxation that under our new government, gives 95% of Americans a break; less taxes, not more.

They have every right to take to the streets and whoop it up, plaster the countryside with anti-Obama signs, and make a lot of noise.  But they ought to recognize that they have representation, lower taxes, and spending that they didn’t protest when the previous government did it.  And they see to forget that it was the previous administration’s war policies and lack of financial oversight that put us in the hole in the first place.

Nevertheless, my bringing this up has angered a few readers over there:

A number of folks have said that if I’m so patriotic, why don’t I pay their taxes, too.  I’ve got a better idea.  Since you won’t acknowledge that you’re actually getting a tax break under Obama, you can send me the difference.  Happy tax day.
